Edibles without the regret: a timing guide

Edibles without the regret: a timing guide

Everyone has a friend with an edible story. It almost always goes the same way: “I ate one, nothing happened, so I had another.” An hour later, everything happened at once. The good news is that this is completely avoidable. Edibles aren’t tricky, they’re just slow.

Why edibles take their time

When you smoke or vape, cannabis goes from your lungs to your bloodstream in seconds. When you eat it, it takes the scenic route: through your stomach, into your liver, and only then to your brain. Your liver also converts THC into a form that many people find stronger and longer lasting.

The timeline

  • Kick-in: anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Peak: around 4 hours in.
  • Total ride: up to 12 hours, with a gentle tail that can last into the next day.

A big meal, your metabolism and how often you use cannabis all shift those numbers.

The golden rules

  • Start small. New to edibles? 2.5 mg of THC or less is plenty for a first try. With a strong treat, that might be a crumb-sized corner.
  • Wait two full hours before even thinking about more. Set a timer if you need to.
  • Skip the wine. Alcohol and edibles together hit harder than either alone.
  • Plan a cozy evening. Good snacks, a show you love, nowhere to drive.

Reading the package: check the milligrams

Edibles vary a lot in strength, and ours can be strong. A single Shatter Krispie is 55 mg of THC, and a pack of our full-extract gummies holds 500 mg. That’s many beginner doses in one treat. Before you take a bite, find the THC per piece (or per pack, then divide), and cut or break it down to your dose. A sharp knife and a little math beat a long, strange evening every time.

Try this: the two-evening test

Trying a new edible? Take a small dose on a quiet evening and write down when you first felt it and how you felt at the peak. Next time, adjust by a small step if you want more. Two evenings of notes and you’ll know your sweet spot.

Took too much?

It happens. Find somewhere quiet and comfy, sip some water, put on something familiar and remind yourself it will pass, because it will. If someone has trouble breathing, chest pain or won’t respond, call 911.

Browse our edibles, and keep them locked away from kids and pets. They look just like regular treats.
