The first time you look at a cannabis menu, the sizes can read like a secret code. An eighth? A half? An O? Here’s the translation, plus a bit of simple math that can save you real money.
The sizes, decoded
- 1 g, a gram: enough for a couple of joints, or for trying a new strain.
- 3.5 g, an eighth: as in an eighth of an ounce. The classic “give it a proper try” size.
- 7 g, a quarter: for a strain you already know you like.
- 14 g, a half: for your regular go-to.
- 28 g, an ounce: also called an “O” or a “zip”.
Size up, pay less per gram
Here’s how most of our flower is priced right now:
- 1 g: $10, so $10 a gram
- Eighth: $20, about $5.71 a gram
- Quarter: $40, about $5.71 a gram
- Half: $70, $5 a gram
- Ounce: $130, about $4.64 a gram
Look at that first jump: an eighth costs only twice as much as a gram, for three and a half times the flower. Unless you just want a taste, the eighth is the smarter first buy. And by the ounce, you’re paying less than half the per-gram price of a single gram.
Can’t pick just one strain? Mix and match
Ounces are the best value, but 28 grams of one strain is a commitment. Our Mix ‘n Match Oz lets you build your ounce from several strains instead. It works out to about $5.36 a gram, which beats buying an eighth or a quarter of each one.
The bargain jar: Cheaps
Our Cheaps (mixed bottoms) are the smaller buds and the bits from the bottom of the jar. Same flower, just less photogenic, and by the ounce it comes to under $3 a gram. Perfect for rolling, baking, or anyone who cares more about the price than the looks.
So how much should you buy?
- Trying something new? Start with a gram or an eighth.
- Found a favourite? Step up to a quarter or a half.
- Use flower most days? An ounce, or a Mix ‘n Match, gives you the most for your money.
- One catch: flower slowly loses its aroma over time. Buy what you’ll finish in a month or two, and store it well. Our storage guide shows you how.
Try this: the per-gram check
Before you check out, divide the price of the next size up by its grams. If the per-gram price drops and you know you’ll enjoy it, sizing up is the better deal. If you’re not sure you’ll love it yet, stick with the smaller size and save the big buy for a proven favourite.
